Hand Silvering and Distressing

Where Chemistry Meets Craft
Through hand-silvering and controlled ageing, each mirror takes on its own character.
Individually silvered and distressed in-house, the surface is formed through carefully controlled chemical processes. What appears effortless is the result of precision at every stage.
Together, these stages create mirrors that do not imitate age — but embody it.
Explore the Silvering Process below:

Surface Preparation

Cleaning and sensitisation for permanent adhesion. The glass is prepared so silver bonds cleanly and securely to the surface.

Silver Deposition

Growing metallic silver directly onto glass through a controlled chemicalreduction process.

Hand Distressing

Guided oxidation for authentic character while preserving structural integrity.

Colour & Backing

Colour defines character while a chemically cured epoxy glass coating sealsand protects the silver layer.

Protective Backing & Quality Control

Protected, inspected and approved to ensure structural integrity and consistent finish.
02

Tinning

A controlled sensitisation process prepares the glass to accept silver at an atomic level, ensuring uniform nucleation and long-term structural integrity.
03

Silver Deposition

Using a dual spray chemical system, metallic silver is formed directly on the surface. It is not applied as a coating, but grown through controlled reduction.
04

Hand Distressing

Each mirror is hand distressed to a specified intensity, replicating the organic patterns of natural oxidation with precision and control.
05

Protective Backing and Quality Control

Protective backing systems safeguard the silver layer, while detailed inspection ensures every panel meets structural and aesthetic standards before leaving the studio.
